Voting is now closed in the DSU elections, after a week of campaigning candidates can now only wait for the results to come in.

Over 5454 students voted in this years election and an early poll conducted by The Demon predicts that the position of President won’t be won in the first round of voting. As of Thursday evening many students were still unaware of who they wanted to vote into the top position within the SU exec.

Last years women’s rep, Lauren Thomas, leads the poll ahead of Ahtesham Mahmood who is taking a political step up after being the VP Student Activities last year.

DP Education is in a similar situation with no clear first round winner, but Martins Peppernieks is in the lead.

The race for VP Media and Communications has less of an uncertainty with the predictions placing Emily Frost with a small majority over her competitor Mike Mayes who is running for re-election of the Media and Comms role.

The position of VP Student Activities is also a fiercely contested seat with Abigail Colebrook taking the lead over the other candidates but once again no clear first round winner can be predicted from this poll. 32% of people asked in this poll were unsure of who they would be voting for in the week long election period.

However Tiffany Tangen, Jordan Parker and Coren Munday share the highest amount of votes in the their favour in the poll but none of the nine candidates hold a clear majority.
