DMU has recently played host to the inspirational Matt Hampson giving his Get Busy Living talk.

Matt was able to draw a large crowd on October 27 to listen to his motivational talk on his life and his charity the Matt Hampson Foundation.

Matt was an aspiring young rugby player who suffered a tragic accident when he was 21 leaving him paralysed from the neck down. Since then he has worked tirelessly to help other people who have had these kinds of accidents move on with their lives.

Matt said: “I want to inspire people and love the feeling of being able to see the people I’ve helped move on with their lives and stay positive.

“I love coaching young players and it is probably the next best thing to actually playing rugby.”

Matt was centre stage and never stopped smiling the entire hour his talk went on. He talked about and discussed his plans for a centre to offer support and advice to those who have suffered accidents and their families.

Matt added: “It was great to be here, I was very pleased to be asked here because DMU is always growing.”

Luke Wilkinson who helped to organise the event was very happy with the turnout and said he was very pleased to be able to have Matt here at DMU and to hear him talk.

Tim Gilbert the DMU Rugby Captain said: “Matt is such a massive figure in the rugby community that for him to take time out to come and talk to us is a big honour.

“All of the guys on the team are inspired by him so as soon as it was announced he would be coming they all wanted to be involved.”
